To Spark is Universal

To Spark is universal.

In the developed world, it can be a blue-green glittering from a motherboard sending complex signals to high-tech machinery.
In my ears it is a set of headphones, where every melody is generated by a spark.
The coffee grinder in the background runs because the ignition switch was grazed by a spark.

In the under-developed world, it is the orange glint of flint and stone, lighting a warming fire for the evening.

When we were in Haiti, the goat they cooked us was possible because of a single spark. The entire honor they gave us by giving us half of their wealth (they only owned 2 goats), was possible because of that single glimmer of potentiality searing with light and heat.

Everyone needs a spark to ignite much-needed resources to move a vibrant life forward. Whether it is turning over the ignition to that tap-tap to drive 15 Haitians to work, or the alarm on our table that rouses us out of bed, or a Massai tribe creating community meals, sparks are the start of it all.

It is the firing of a single electronic impulse in my brain stem that tells me to run, dance, and sing. My mom once started a book draft called ‘Dendrites Dancing’. Dancing dendrites and sparking synapses, every motion of your body, every feeling of passionate drive, is the result of a spark.
