Humans are the only creatures…

…that usually live in the past and future at the same time.

We usually live in the past by operating out of our history.
We usually live in the future by worrying about what happens next.

Other animals, as a contrast, usually are experiencing life as it comes; what to eat, where to sleep, how to procreate.

Humans can do something else that other animals cannot. We can choose to live from the present. That thing, that ability to choose, is quite unique to the human experience.

AND, it points to an intrinsic value in living out of both.

Sparked Quote: Ida Scott Taylor

“One day at a time – this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone: and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.”
