Old Haiti Photos, Starbucks, and More

NOT A THOUSAND PICTURES

Here are photos from my first CPI trip in Haiti!

I miss the island Haiti rests on. It doesn’t help that I am reading a wonderful book, ‘Following Jesus Through the Eye of the Needle’ by Kent Annan from Beyond Borders. His descriptions of life in Haiti are accurate, dire and profound.

I thought you may enjoy this slide show from a short time ago. Also, Jonathan flew out this afternoon to Haiti to get our first on-the-ground update on our team. We should have an informative message for you next week!

These images are from CPI Haiti (Community Partnership International), where I spend most of my time when I am not working or writing on State of the Spark. I guess the State of the Spark includes a small island called Haiti!

STARBUCKS INVOLVED IN HAITI?!

Well, hold on for a second and let me explain. If you do not already know, Starbucks offered to accept donations at their registers to help with the effort in Haiti. They have donated over $400,000 through customer giving.

A far more profound thing I discovered was the partner-matching program that Starbucks has. For some time now, Starbucks has offered to match the funds that their partners decide to give to a list of non-profit organizations.

If you can do the math (anything x 2, for the slow people), that is great leverage and a huge help to humanitarian organizations.

Well, after some paper work processing, Starbucks accepted Community Partnership International to their list! That means that partners can donate to CPI Haiti through the Partner Matching program to help Haiti long after the register donations end!

The Catch (which I just discovered, so bear with me): There needs to be a minimum of 25 hour volunteering for the organization. grrrr.

Starbucks’ Partners, here’s how you set it up:

  1. Go to http://lifeat.sbux.com.
  2. Log in. (This will be the only difficult part; setting up the account, making sure you have the correct password, etc.)
  3. When you do the search, enter the following: Keywords: Community Partnership International and choose “Exact Words”, City: leave blank, State: Florida.
  4. Then, click search!
  5. Either one of the entries will do. Click ‘Select.’

All that being said, if you are interested in volunteering or partnering in any way, let us know!

More soon.

Passionately,

Grant R. Nieddu
