My Annual Sabbatical
Welcome to my annual sabbatical. From my birthday on November 17th until Marissa’s birthday on January 14th I simply try to rest. I go through the first few days and simply not work on other projects.
I took this idea from one designer who, every 7 years, takes an entire year off.
I still do my job. I keep going with the projects that are in front of me. New projects, however, generally get the “no.”
The goal is to enter the next year with a clear mind and launch into another round of sparked living. Living a life of being sparked and sparking others can only occur when things are in order.
I try to finish unfinished business, put to bed any projects, meditate, do an entire GOSPA-SMART session, put things on the calendar that I know are important to me, and, well, rest.
I have a tendency, as do many people, to commit to things that they really have no reason or desire for. Especially as a sanguine, trying to please those I care for most, and some I don’t!, I can have a tendency to say ‘yes’ to things I really believe I should say ‘no’ to for my health.
My Sabbatical is in place to prevent me from having a Massive Corrective Action. It is in place to help me stay focused and in the game when I need it. It gives meaning and purpose to my rest and, thus, prevents me from burning out in the first place.
