Throughout the entire process of developing State of the Spark, my life direction, and the vision I had for my books and materials, I have been unsettled about one major thing:
How do I launch and present my material?
In asking this question of myself for the last year, I have found that I have actually been answer a separate question entirely. (And, honestly, I think that I have found that other infopreneurs are guilty of the same problem of answering a different question than they are asking themselves.)
I have been actually answering the question ‘What do I need to have in place, what tools and services need to be ready, working and available on my website.’ Tools and services are good and need to be in place. However, that’s not the question I was asking myself.
The question was how to present the material in an exciting way that communicated my message even in the presentation.
After reading ‘Free Prize Inside’, I had a big aha! moment about what was missing from my plan. And what was missing was obvious, once I noticed. I was not thinking about the soft innovations (to steal a term from the book itself), that make us go ‘Wow’. I was not thinking about marketing.
I need to be thinking about marketing since, after all, “the packaging IS the product.” [Taken from Godin, emphasis mine.]
My writing for the site is coming to a close (hopefully!). I have always known that the next phase is the marketing. Now I am fully aware that part of that marketing process is not just getting the message out there, but also letting the packaging, the look and feel, shout the message as well.
I digress. Read this book. Wa-TOW!
